The Sumerian Voyage of Thor Heyerdahl
A series of four programmes
As soon as Tigris enters the Shatt-al-Arab, the wide waterway that leads to the Arab Gulf, she's immediately in trouble. The Gulf is one of the most dangerous and congested waterways in the world. There are hidden reefs, oil derricks litter the sea-bed and giant oil tankers take two miles to stop. What are the chances of a primitive reed boat surviving collision with any of these?
