Nine Lives

on BBC Two England

A season of film biographies of artists and musicians. The Brothers Grimm
This Omnibus film looks, at the magical world of the classic fairy tales, and at the lives of those strange brothers who helped to preserve them.
In this dramatised film, scenes from these Germanic stories are reconstructed. We discover what extra measures were adopted when the Prince failed to wake Sleeping Beauty with a kiss; why Cinderella's slipper was originally made of fur; what revenge the traditional story-tellers took on their own version of Shylock.
The Brothers Grimm saw it as their life's work to preserve these stories before they vanished for ever.
