Starring James Cagney, Corinne Calvet, Dan Dailey
John Ford's remake of a World War I story which had already been a highly successful film of the silent era.
Dan Dailey and James Cagney play two hard-boiled professional soldiers given the job of making fighting men of the callow youths arriving in France. Captain Flagg and Sergeant Quirt are old sparring partners, perpetually at each other's throat, yet loving to hate each other.
Both Cagney and Dailey came from a background of vaudeville dancing and both have made their names largely in straight dramatic roles - although Cagney won an Oscar for his performance in Yankee Doodle Dandy.
