When in 1939, the British Army went to war in France, Gerry Massy-Collier went with them.
Armed, not with a rifle but with a cinecamera, he was part of a two-man War Office Film Unit. After the fall of France he was posted to film the early victories of General Wavell in North Africa. Altogether he spent four years filming in the Middle East.
