Composer of the Week: Josquin Desprez

on BBC Radio 3

(born 1450-55; died 1521).
With Donald Macleod.

In the village of Condesur l'Escaut in northern France there is an open square planted with trees: it is also the resting place of one of the world's finest composers. Josquin Desprez - a musical colossus whose works link the late Middle Ages with the High Renaissance - is buried there; the church that once stood on the site having been sacked by the Huguenots in the 16th century and demolished during the French Revolution.
