Not only Charles and Diana but also Ambrose and Tony and Shirley and Delma ...
It was watched by 750 million people around the world. Charles and Diana were the stars. But there were nearly a million extras in the great Royal Wedding production.
Travelling through the night came a busload of Liverpool ladies; from Wales came a male voice choir; a group from Milwaukee, USA, paid £250 each for a ringside seat and constant champagne; from north London came Mr and Mrs Daley, with their eight children; and from Scotland the gillie who taught Prince Charles to fish. Meanwhile behind the scenes were policemen, St John Ambulancemen, buskers and journalists. It was a once-in-a-lifetime event.
