Summer's Lease: 3: A Battlefield

on BBC Two England

by John Mortimer.
A film in four parts starring John Gielgud as Haverford Downs, Susan Fleetwood as Molly Pargeter, Michael Pennington as Hugh Pargeter, Rosemary Leach as Nancy Leadbetter, Mel Martin as Rosie Fortinbras, Fiodor Chaliapin as Prince Tosti-Castelnuovo and Denis Lill as Ken Corduroy

The day of the Palio - a spectacular horse race run in the main square of Siena. Beneath the pageantry lie centuries of intrigue and enmity, villainy and greed.
The same dark forces seem to underlie Molly's quest for the mysterious Buck Kettering. Meanwhile, Haverford reluctantly pursues his own quarry - the forgetful Nancy Leadbetter.
