For Lord and Lady Dungavel, nine years of married life spent in the comparative fastness of their castle in the Western Highlands, have produced, among other things, six children, all girls, which for the gay and beautiful Lady Emma seem just about enough. But the handsome Lord Dungavel, intent on producing an heir to his considerable estates, is still not prepared to fall in with his wife's wishes to call it a day and derive some social pleasure from the title, the money, and the tiara, which her marriage has brought her. At this gentle crisis in their erstwhile happy life together, Lady Emma puts through a long distance call to her parents in America, inviting them to come over to help...
