During the Chinese Revolution, Mao Tse-tung drove Chaing Kai-shek and his fellow anti-communists from the mainland on to the small island of Taiwan. For 40 years, the exiles lived under threat of invasion. Despite this, they have fashioned perhaps the most dynamic economy in the world - a model for the China they still hope to re-conquer.
