Six from Europe: L'Amour a mort

on BBC Two England

The first of a short series of films. Today starring Sabine Azema, Fanny Ardant, Pierre Arditi, Andre Dussollier.

When her lover, Simon, is pronounced dead by a doctor, Elisabeth feels her own life is over. Yet only minutes later Simon walks downstairs, apparently none the worse. For Elisabeth their love and life together are a miracle, but Simon becomes more and more obsessed with his experience of death.
Resnais's passionate study of the power of love in the face of death is counterpointed by Hans-Werner Henze's elegiac music.
