An Australian drama series in three parts adapted from MARCUS CLARKE 'S classic adventure story starring
1: Richard Devine is disinherited and driven from his home when the secret of his true parentage is discovered. By a strange set of circumstances he is wrongly accused, under the name of 'Rufus Dawes ', of the murder of his real father and transported from England to Australia for the term of his natural life. Once a carefree adventurer, Dawes is gradually transformed into a tough, self-sufficient convict by the horrors of a penal system where injustice is piled upon injustice.
