with Angela Rippon An Eye for a Bird
When Eric Hosking left school in 1925, his headmaster prophesied that he would never make anything of his life; now, at 70 years of age, he has just celebrated 50 years as a professional bird photographer. Dedication to his craft has won him international acclaim as well as bringing him to the brink of personal tragedy. At the age of 27, on the threshold of a promising career, disaster struck. A tawny owl he was photographing swooped and deprived him of his greatest asset - an eye. ANGELA RIPPON visited Eric in his London home to hear about his fascinating career and joined him on the mud-flats of the Wirral peninsula to watch the master at work and to try her hand at his art.
