Coup!

on BBC Two England

The remarkable story of Simon Mann 's failed attempt to overthrow the government of Equatorial Guinea with help from a band of mercenaries. With a plot involving an allegedly cannibalistic dictator, his playboy son and offshore oil reserves, this one-off satirical drama provides a captivating insight into the fortunes of the former SAS man and old Etonian, who found himself betrayed, arrested and confined to an African jail for his involvement in the 2004 coup. The film also explains how Mark Thatcher , son of Margaret, was tricked into financing the scheme.
Penned by Bremner, Bird and Fortune's John Fortune , this tale of money, secrecy and greed also throws light on the new South Africa - a country that cannot afford to be seen supporting the overthrow of a black African leader. Contains strong language.
