Michael Berkeley's first guest of the year 2000 is theatre director John Caird, who last year directed a triumphant production of Bernstein's musical Candide at the Royal National Theatre. His previous productions at the National include Peter Pan, Chekhov's The Seagull, Bulwer-Lytton's Money and Trelawney of the Wells. His musical choices include a Chopin piano sonata, the Mozart Oboe Quartet, a Beethoven string quartet, an excerpt from Gorecki's Symphony No 3 and the finale of the National Theatre production of Candide.
