The Eye of Vichy

on BBC Two England

(L'Oeil de Vichy)
Last year, 16 July was declared a commemorative day in France to mark the time during the Second World War when
French and foreign Jews were rounded up and imprisoned on the orders of the French government. The Vichy regime is examined in this documentary directed by film-maker Claude Chabrol who uses press, radio and newsreel archives to show how France was governed between 1940 and 1944 - through propaganda, misinformation and manipulation of the news. In French with English subtitles.
(Lacombe Lucien is at 10.30pm)
