Arnold Cooke 's String Trio was written two years ago and is dedicated to the Carter String Trio, who performed it for the first time in London last January.
The suite for unaccompanied flute by Egon Wellesz was written in 1937. John Joubert , who was born in Cape
Town in 1927, was awarded a Performing Right Society Scholarship in 1946, and studied at the Royal Academy of Music, London, under Theodore Holland and Howard Ferguson ; he is at present a lecturer in music at University College, Hull. His Symphonic Study in B minor was broadcast in May. The Divertimento, written during 1950-51, is dedicated to Howard Ferguson ; it is in five movements.
