Gwen Harold, an American girl, meets and falls in love with Hidenari Terasaki, a young Japanese diplomat in Washington. Despite opposition from her family and his Embassy officials, they marry but, later, with the attack on Pearl Harbour, their dream of 'a rainbow across the Pacific', a bridge of peace between Japan and the United States, seems shattered forever.
