Semele

on BBC Two England

The London Coliseum provides the venue for a live performance of English National Opera's production of Semele, Handel's irreverent and sensuous opera. The three-act work, produced by Robert Carsen , stars
Rosemary Joshua as Semele, a young mortal who embarks on a passionate and ill-fated affair with the god Jupiter. During the interval Charles Hazlewood - who introduces the opera - looks at how Ovid's magical stories of the gods at play with humans, Metamorphoses, has inspired artists, musicians and writers for many centuries.
