Natural Neighbours Invasion of the Tree Smashers Living alongside the cattle on the Craig family farm in Africa is a motley gang of wild intruders. A typical day sees Gilbert the elephant smashing down trees while Roger the giraffe prunes the garden. In spite of such behaviour, the farmers and their big game neighbours seem to get along. Producer Keith Scholey ; Series producer Michael Gunton (R) (S)
5.40 Highland Diary The red-deer rut has started and Simon King hopes to follow the three stags to witness the start of the fighting. And there's a breakthrough with the otters: close-ups shots from the first really intimate contact. Editor Fiona Pitcher ; Series editor Paul Appleby (S)
5.50 The Natural World In the Company of Bears. The ski resort of Whistler in Canada has more black bears than anywhere in North America. They are attracted to the rich grazing on the ski runs, and to the waste left by visitors.
But such proximity to humans can cause problems, which is where researcher Michael Allen steps in to help them. Narrated by Miranda Richardson. See Choice.
Producers Jeff and Sue Turner ; Series editor Neil Nightingale (S) (W) The bear care man: page 26
