The Whitbread Book Awards

The annual celebration of contemporary British writing is covered on television for the first time in its 28-year history. The live programme includes interviews with three of the category winners, readings from the four winning books, and a panel discussion.
The nominees are Justin Cartwright 's novel Leading the Cheers, Giles Foden's first novel The Last King of Scotland, Amanda Foreman's biography of Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire, and the late Ted Hughes's poetry work Birthday Letters. Presented by Juliet Morris and Francine Stock.
