Rough Guide to the World: Florence and Venice

on BBC Two England

Continuing the new seven-part series for independent travellers.

Magenta De Vine and Simon O'Brien visit the two capitals of Italian culture, where right-wing politics has provoked a radical new movement in music. They meet some boys in high heels who long to be girls, others with a passion for football and their team, Fiorentina, and track down an opera singer who is just as concerned with her weighing scales as her musical ones. In Venice, they are welcomed by Tina Turner and Madonna - as portrayed by alternative cabaret star Ennio Marchetto - and meet the young men in uniform who drive the local women wild.
