Forty Minutes: The Eternal Triangle: The Wife

on BBC Two England

A documentary trilogy that examines a central sexual dilemma from the viewpoint of the mistress, the wife and the husband.
'When the honeymoon was over, I really began to think to myself, "Hello, I'm not sure about this".'
'I always thought of marriage as two people locking themselves up in a cage.'
'I would call it the "Infernal Triangle", because it causes such hell for everybody.'
Three wives talk honestly about husbands, lovers and mistresses. The first still feels the pain of abandonment by her husband for his mistress.
The second has been happily married for 30 years. Both she and her husband have condoned each other's infidelities. The third walked away from her husband and three children for her lover. The second film in this trilogy illustrates, from the viewpoint of the wife, the agonising choices two people must make, if they are to abide by the promises they made to each other at the altar.
