During President Roosevelt's 'New Deal' programme, the Farm Security Administration set up a group of photographers to take propaganda pictures of life in rural America to publicise its work in helping farmers survive the Great Depression. It was the foundation of a world-famous collection of photographs - the FSA Collection - now in the Library of Congress in Washington.
Arthur Rothstein was one of those photographers. In the first of four programmes he talks about his first assignment.
