Hans Werner Henze at 60 with Simon Rattle conducting the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra leader PAUL WILLEY
Hans Werner Henze is probably the most prolific and celebrated composer to emerge from post-war
Germany. In July of last year he came to England to attend performances celebrating his 60th birthday, and the most important event was the British premiere at the Proms of his Seventh Symphony.
This film follows the days of rehearsal, Henze's conversations with Simon Rattle , and his memories of half a lifetime in music. Photography JOHN MCGLASHAN Sound ALAN WARD
