Morning Performance: Plays and Players: 2

on BBC Radio 3

"They have their exits and their entrances." Christopher Cook continues his exploration of incidental music for plays with scores inspired by some of the great names of the theatre, including music for Sarah Bernhardt by Saint-Saens, a score by John Foulds for Sybil Thorndike in the first performance of George Bernard Shaw's St Joan, and a suite by Richard Strauss inspired by Moliere. Plus music for the 17th-century English stage by Henry Purcell, specially recorded by the Private Music.
