World Cinema: Pandora's Box

on BBC Two England

The second of three films by the German director Georg W. Pabst
Starring Louise Brooks, Fritz Kortner, Franz Lederer, Carl Gotz

Louise Brooks's cool, innocent expression and open beckoning smile make her an ideal choice for Lulu, the prostitute who inspired evil unawares. Frank Wedekind's play shocked audiences in the 1890s, and in the 20s Pabst's film caused a furore. The music for tonight's presentation has been selected by Carey Blyton
