Sir Mortimer: Digging Up People

on BBC Two England

Our greatest living archaeologist Sir Mortimer Wheeler returns to the screen in the first of two Chronicle films which take us on a journey through his extraordinary and eventful life.
Sir Mortimer has gained the highest honours in three separate roles: as archaeologist, soldier and popular television personality. Now, in his 83rd year, he takes Magnus Magnusson back to the landmarks in the first half of his life: from the Battle of Passchendaele in 1917 to the Battle of Maiden Castle, fought and lost by a British tribe almost 2,000 years ago.
