Middle Classes: Their Rise and Sprawl

on BBC Two England

Continuing the series that tells the story of the evolution of middle-class life from the 19th century to the present day. Them and Us. Snobbery and class hatred between the wars is traced in tonight's programme. The theme is illustrated by the quiet north Oxford suburb of Cutteslowe where, for nearly 30 years, a nine foot wall with barbed wire on top divided privately-owned houses from council properties on the same street. Narrated by Geoffrey Palmer. See Choice. Director Louise Wardle : Producer Rachel Bell (S) (W)
