The winners of the four heats return to the BBC's Birmingham studios for The Final

The trophy of the Royal Institution will go to one of these schools:
Loughborough Grammar, Leicestershire
Yeovil College, Somerset
Bellshill Academy, Strathclyde
St Fanchea's, Enniskillen, Co Fermanagh.
The projects offer: electronic aids for nurses; improved kidney dialysis machines; an answer to iron pollution and a way to make the home fires burn more clearly.

Professor Sir George Porter, Royal Institution
Heinz Wolff, Medical Research Council

Seven additional cash prizes will be awarded for special qualities displayed by some of the 13 projects shown in this series.
