The World Heavyweight Championship

on BBC One London

Frank Bruno (Challenger) v Tim Witherspoon (WBA Champion)
In the early hours of this morning, Frank Bruno went into the ring at Wembley
Stadium hoping to become Britain's first Heavyweight Champion since Bob
Fitzsimmons in 1897. His opponent, 28-year-old Tim
Witherspoon from the USA, has lost only two of his 26 fights. But Bruno's punching Power now commands respect world wide and today he had the chance to prove it. BBC cameras were at the ringside for the 15-round contest, with commentary by HARRY CARPENTER who has covered all of big Frank's fights from his amateur days to this world-title shot - the biggest boxing occasion in Britain for over 20 years.
