The Murray
For Russell Braddon travelling the Murray -Australia's greatest river-offered an opportunity to rediscover lost feelings about his homeland.
He begins on foot, paddles his own canoe, then takes a ride on an assortment of boats - a miniature paddle-steamer, the Emmy Lou , then Paddy Hogg 's Merrilinda, and finally, the Murray Explorer.
'One hundred years hence,' says Braddon, 'Australia may have become Asian, or Russian, or unequivocally vulgar.... But the Murray will still be flowing unconcernedly from the mountains to her rendezvous with the indifferent sea.' Written and presented by RUSSELL BRADDON
