When this new serial begins the Martingale children are living in London - and not liking it very much. They are not very well off and their mother has to work very hard at writing stories in order to pay the bills and the school fees. And London is so crowded that they have a hard job finding space in which to keep Fancy, the old horse they have bought to prevent its being destroyed.
Then, suddenly, things take a decided turn for the better. The Martingales find that an elderly aunt has left them a castle - and a great many cats! That explains part of the title. You will have to find out for yourselves what the 'sixpence' part means in Children's Television.
