A Wake for Sam: Happy Days

on BBC Two England

A season of classic performances of the work of Samuel Beckett.
Starring Billie Whitelaw and Leonard Fenton.
Winnie is buried up to her waist in the centre of a mound of earth. In Act 2, she has sunk to her neck. In this strange predicament she carries on contentedly with the routine of her ordinary happy days, while husband Willie looks quietly on. This is a recording of the 1979 Royal Court Theatre production directed by Samuel Beckett himself. (R) ("Not I" with Billie Whitelaw Wednesday 10.15pm)
