Diamonds in the Sky: 6: Dealing Down the Line

on BBC Two England

A series of seven programmes which examine the impact of air travel on ourselves and the world we live in. Presented by Julian Pettifer

International air travel is a modern miracle of accord between nations and yet it is essential for the airline operating abroad to have its own men, on the spot, protecting and promoting the company's interests 'down the line'.

This is a twilight world where business and diplomacy meet. Fuel crises, food shortages, technical problems and even wars abound. Much of it is fairly routine for the British Airways team operating in the Middle East. But when the sonic boom of Concorde shatters the serenity of an oil sheikh's palace the ensuing repercussions are anything but routine.
