Tonight's concert concedes the preliminary rounds and brings together singers from Russia, the Czech Republic, Ireland, Mexico and, for the first time ever. South Africa. The Irish soprano Louise Walsh, who has been making her mark with the Stuttgart Opera for the fast two years, will be competing for a place in tomorrow's final. Carlo Rizzi conducts the Orchestra of Welsh National Opera, and Ingrid Surgenor accompanies at the piano. Presented by Huw Edwards and Natalie Wheen.

(The final will be broadcast live tomorrow evening on BBC2.)
