Horizon: Master of the Microscope

on BBC Two England

Trained as a biologist in pre-revolutionary Moscow, Dr Roman Vishniac, orientalist and microscopist. is one of America's leading nature photographers.
Tonight Horizon introduces his work for the first time to British audiences. We see him as he photographs and films the world that he has made his own, the magic world which can only be seen down the lenses of the microscope.
Vishniac describes his first meeting, as a refugee Jewish intellectual, with Albert Einstein; he tells us some of the secrets of his famous lighting techniques; and he unfolds for us, with a characteristic vitality, some of the philosophical attitudes that he has arrived at in the course of a life devoted to the study of living organisms.
