Romeo and Juliet

on BBC Two England

A ballet by JOHN CRANKO
The tragic story of Romeo and Juliet has provided inspiration for many composers and choreographers. From 1940, for many people the ballet Romeo and Juliet meant Lavrovsky's production with a marvellous score by Prokofiev for the Kirov and Bolshoi companies, with Ulanova.
In 1962 JOHN CRANKO took the same score and mounted his ballet on the Stuttgart Company of which he had become director the previous year, with Marcia Haydee as Juliet Richard Cragun as Romeo Egon Madsen as Mercutio
A ZDF production
