A series of five programmes
The Paul Taylor Dance Company in Roses
Music: Wagner's Siegfried Idyll and Heinrich Baermann's Adagio for clarinet and orchestra.
Last Look
Music: commissioned score by Donald York
The dream of a lost romantic love - and the nightmare of a world of degradation: two views of life from Paul Taylor, one of the most original and diverse talents in modern dance today. Both these works, the lyrical Roses and the frenetic Last Look, were created in the same year, 1985. Between their performance here, the programme visits Taylor at his weekend house by the sea on Long Island, where he escapes from the city and from dance to a life close to the natural world: one of the sources of his choreography. Introduced by Robert Cohan, former lead dancer with the Martha Graham Dance Company and founder and Artistic Director of London Contemporary Dance Theatre.
