At 50 Wimpole Street, the Barrett household is dominated by the cruel and tyrannical Edward Moul ton Barrett. When his favourite daughter Elizabeth begins a relationship with the poet Robert Browning , Barrett sees his iron authority threatened.
Charles Laughton gives one of his most celebrated screen performances in this first film version of Rudolph Besier 's famous play.
