WORLD OF DANCE Tango Trail

on BBC Radio 2

The third of four programmes in which
Tony Staveacre raids the record library for the best tracks of recorded tango music from around the world. The roots of the tango are said to be found in Spanish dance, Cuban carnival parades, and North African religious rituals. In South America, it became the music of the brothels and generated a new dance style that emulated Creole knife fights.
Tango Nuevo
A tribute to its inventor, the late Astor Piazzolla , with examples of his recordings, including
