on BBC Two England

starring Bosco Hogan
T. P. McKenna , John Gielgud
'Once upon a time and a very good time it was there was a moocow coming down along the road and this moocow that was coming down along the road met a nicens little boy named Baby Tuckoo ...'
James Joyce 's famous novel is adapted for the screen with loving care and understanding by director Joseph Strick and by a cast entirely Irish apart from John Gielgud. Set in Ireland at the turn of the century, this beautifully photographed film highlights the formative experiences of Stephen Dedalus. the young Dublin poet-scholar modelled after Joyce himself.
James Joyce done by a choice Irish cast who take to the self-discovery theme with confessional relish.
