Young Meg Day has shown exceptional promise at school, and her teacher Miss Figgis has coached her for a scholarship examination. But should she win the scholarship Meg realises that she will be faced with a problem - a problem that concerns her relationship with her family. For a new life and a new environment will be open to her - and she will have to break away from her background and her friends.
