Atlantic Realm

on BBC Two England

narrated by Martin Jarvis. Ocean of Light
Second of three programmes. The open ocean is a sunlit no-hiding-place world. Through it drift transparent jellyfish, and speedy killers. They all ride on, or hunt by the edges of great currents such as the Gulf Stream. Here, ten million tons of sargassum weed has become a travelling nursery, snackbar and sanctuary for many ocean fish. It also offers lodging for uniquely disguised weed riders - swimming sea slugs and climbing frogfish.
Further north, richer seas are sought out by migrating basking sharks, tuna, and whales. But this ocean of light is only the bright entrance to the black abyss that beckons from below. Photography RICHARD PRICE
