Midnight Movie: A Matter of Life and Death

on BBC Two England

Starring David Niven, Roger Livesey, Kim Hunter

Sqn-Ldr Peter Carter should have been killed when he baled out of a burning bomber over the Channel in 1945. But, still alive after a miraculous escape, he resists the summons of a hallucinatory 'messenger' to take his rightful place in the next world.
This stunning fantasy, set partly on a Technicolor earth and partly in a black-and-white heaven, was written, produced and directed by one of the most successful partnerships in British film history: that of MICHAEL POWELL and EMERIC PRESSBURGER.
