The Light of Experience

on BBC Two England

4: Florence Cobb
'I have never felt any bitterness towards the man who shot my husband. In my prayers, God gave me the grace to say, "I forgive you'".
It's been said of Ireland that the inevitable never happens, but the unexpected often occurs. Florence Cobb made myth into reality. When her husband's killer was caught. she immediately wrote to him in the Maze and offered her forgiveness. The publicity aroused by her letter resulted in a request from another prisoner - also serving life for murder - that she should visit him. She did and they fell in love. On his release, as far-off as 1997, they plan to marry. Producer FAY WOOLF
