The image of the big man in the red scarf hangs in poster shops all over Britain, alongside Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix and the Stones.
Like today's pop personalities, Aristide Bruant became a cult figure in the Paris of the 1890s. Toulouse Lautrec designed several posters for Bruant's performances, and out of this ephemeral art he created some of his most remarkable images.
