A Fight to Remember

on BBC Two England

Introduced by Harry Carpenter.

Henry Armstrong was featherweight champion of the world. He was strong and ambitious and he wanted the lightweight championship as well. There were difficulties in making the match so he missed a whole division and went for the welterweight title. Barney Ross was the champion and this was not only one of his most courageous performances but was to be the end of his career.

When Henry Armstrong stepped into the ring in New York City for this fight it was a unique occasion, he was featherweight, lightweight and welterweight champion of the world. This was 'Homicide Hank' at the peak of his career, but triple champion or not Ceferino Garcia was not that impressed.
