Continuing the new seven-part series for independent travellers.
This week, Magenta DeVine and Simon O'Brien go to the Caribbean islands of the Bahamas. In Nassau, they visit the casinos catering to the 2.5 million tourists who arrive every year by cruise liner. While Simon finds out why it is illegal for Bahamians to gamble, Magenta discovers "the most powerful aphrodisiac in the world" and meets men who have five girlfriends at once.
This liberal attitude to sex has its limits, they discover - young gay people mostly leave for the US, whose culture dominates the islands. And on idyllic Harbour Island they check out naked picnics and visit Spanish Wells, a bizarre enclave of white Bahamians.
