World Cinema: Ivan's Childhood

Starring Kolya Burlyaev

Andrei Tarkovsky's award-winning film is a moving and sensitive account of a boy's life and death in war. Orphaned in the German invasion of Russia and determined on revenge, 12-year-old Ivan becomes a partisan. After several successful front-line spying operations it is decided to move young Ivan back to the rear for a rest. He resists strongly and is allowed to go on one more mission.
