Frederic Delius spent the majority of his life in France. There he met his future wife and subsequently moved with her to the artists' colony of Grez-sur-Loing, near
Fontainebleau. Sadly, he was to suffer a long descent into illness and total paralysis, a torment slightly eased by the arrival at Grez of Eric Fenby , a young Yorkshireman who came to work as Delius's assistant in his last years. Violin Sonata in B (1st mvt)
